Reiki (pronounced Ray-Kay) is a method of natural healing which involves working with Universal Life Force Energy (the name literally means Universal Life Force Energy). It is a powerful but gentle healing method which can be used to treat most ailments in a holistic way. It works on many levels – the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual – to help rebalance and release blocked energies. Reiki gently supports the body’s own natural inclination and ability to relax, heal itself and enter into a general state of well-being. As such, Reiki is also used for simple relaxation and meditation.

Reiki is a system of natural healing which was discovered by Tendai Buddhist monk, Dr Mikao Usui, in Japan at the turn of the century. Usui discovered an energy which he could tap into for healing on the physical and emotional level. He ensured that his teachings were passed along and they, therefore, successfully reached the West and remain with us for use today.

Reiki, as a treatment, is all about beautiful simplicity. During the treatment, I will place my hands a short distance away from different areas of your body and, with the intent for healing in mind, the Reiki energy will flow through my hands to your body. The energy will find its way to where it needs to go without the need for me to control or direct it. The energy flow follows its own special Universal pathway to the area which needs healing and I just step aside and allow the Reiki energy to do its work.

The relaxing Reiki experience is carried out while you are fully-clothed and lying down. The treatment generally lasts for 1 hour, but you can request a 1½ or 2 hour treatment. For example, if you choose to combine your Reiki session with a crystal therapy, you could feel this option requires a longer treatment time. During Reiki, you may experience the energy flow as a feeling of warmth, cold or even tingling. However, all of this is perfectly normal and you will, undoubtedly, feel an overall sense of relaxation and well-being by the end of the therapy.
